Safely Traveling During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has immensely affected travel. Travel isn’t the same anymore, and experts think that many changes are here to stay.

Traveling during a pandemic is risky; however, with the pandemic lasting well over a year now, we need to make sustainable changes so we can go about our lives safely too.

If you’re in the military, travel is part of the job, and you can’t escape it. Here are some safe traveling tips during a pandemic:

Wear a face mask in public spaces

Faces masks are helpful at preventing the spread of COVID-19. Make it a point to wear a face mask while in a public space. If you’re taking any mode of public transport, make sure you wear an effective face mask and sanitize your hands after touching any handles, railings, and faucets.

Keep your distance from others

Just facemasks alone won’t protect you from getting or spreading COVID-19 which is why social distancing is so important. Try to maintain a distance of 2 meters at all times from others for your safety.

Pack enough supplies

When traveling, you need to make sure you have enough face masks, disinfectants, and hand sanitizers on you. If you wear a face shield, make sure you have enough of those too. Packing too few supplies will encourage you to wear a face mask on much longer, reducing its efficacy.

Disinfect surfaces at the place you’re staying

Once you check into the place you’re staying when you reach your destination, make it a point to disinfect all surfaces. This way, you can be sure that the space you’re living in is safe for you. If you’re living in a space shared with others, always remember to regularly wash your hands or sanitize.

Get vaccinated

If you travel frequently or meet many new people because of your job, get yourself vaccinated. There are many COVID-19 vaccines available, and they have proven to be very effective.

If you have been fully vaccinated in the United States, you won’t need to get tested before or after your trip within the county, nor will you have to quarantine on your return. By getting vaccinated, you are protecting yourself and those around you; moreover, you don’t have to spend two weeks in isolation every time you return.
